About Steven L. Meyers, PhD, and the launch of Personalized Philanthropy:
Advising, Training, Coaching for Non-Profits and Donors
Even before founding the Center for Personalized Philanthropy at the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science, Steve Meyers was recognized nationally as the pioneer and champion of a new kind of charitable gift design practice: real-world implementation and true realization of the mantra, “the right gift, at the right time, for the right purpose, for the right donor.” Steve is a national keynote speaker and has often been called upon to consult with gift officers, advisors and donors.
Steve served at the Weizmann Institute’s American Committee as a vice president and member of the management team for 21 years. He holds a Masters Degree in Organization and Management from Antioch University and a Ph.D. from the University of Buffalo. While Steve will continue to consult with the Weizmann Institute’s American Committee, he is bringing Personalized Philanthropy consulting, training and coaching to a wider audience – including professional gift officers and advisors, as well as donors, board members and thought leaders who support charitable organizations through their gifts and actions.
With the strategies and technology of Personalized Philanthropy, donors create a lasting legacy – but this is a legacy with a special distinction: that these are “grail gifts” where impact and recognition begin right now. Beyond merely servicing institutional campaigns, donors can mesh their most compelling interests with the most compelling needs of the organizations they care most about – for the benefit of all. Steve works closely with his consulting clients to show them exactly how to make this happen.
If you are a gift officer, estate or financial advisor or a philanthropist, Steve’s book, “Personalized Philanthropy: Crash the Fundraising Matrix” will help you refocus and rebalance your practice. Your return on investment is your ability to design larger gifts with greater impact. Just as important, Personalized Philanthropy will bring restored creativity, effectiveness – and even joy – to your own practice.
Personalized Philanthropy has been prominently featured in The Chronicle of Philanthropy in a major article which noted the comparison with personalized medicine as a game-changer in sustainable fundraising. Steve has been published in The Journal of Gift Planning, Advancing Philanthropy and Investments and Wealth Monitor of the Investment Consultants Management Association (IMCA). He speaks frequently on donor-focused topics and planned giving in the big picture for national and regional councils and for estate and financial professionals, including the National Conference on Philanthropic Planning (PPP), Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA). Steve is a contributing author for the Planned Giving Design Center, as well as for the Elite Advisor Forum of CEG Worldwide. He has served on philanthropy councils in New York and Connecticut, as well as on two major national task forces recommending guidelines and metrics for counting and reporting charitable gifts. Besides being an author, Steve is also an acquisition editor for CharityChannel Press.
Steve strongly believes in building a pioneering culture of teamwork and collaboration. is HHis true passion and enjoyment comes from helping donors realize ways they can help make miracles happen at the organizations closest to their hearts. He is the author of the book, Personalized Philanthropy: Crash the Fundraising Matrix, and its companion for donors, Personalized Philanthropy and the Four Donors: Parables for Radically Rethinking Your Philanthropy: A New Conversation for donors, gift officers, and advisors.
